Plans

1) Brainstorm ideas for a new Science Fiction film aimed at a family audience. Plan out the following:
  1. Issue/fear that drives the storyline (e.g. alien invasion, contagious disease, overpopulation etc.) -My issue/fear that will feature/drive my movie is a contagious disease called The Flux.
  2. Title and tag line - The Flux , Run before it gets you.
  3. Logline – summing up the film in one ‘hook’ sentence - As mad scientist Dave's experiment goes wrong , The Flux spreads across the Seven Seas infecting everything in its way.
  4. Other successful Science Fiction films similar to your idea - Other Sci-Fi films that are similar to my idea 'The Happening' and 'Outbreak'.
  5. The narrative elements / plot and the sub-genre of Science Fiction it fits into - A narrative element for 'The Flux' is fear of contagion as there is an international fear that people near you might have the disease.Another narrative element is fear of mutation as the disease infects humans and the infected humans try to infect the people closest to them. The plot is a scientist experimenting on a dead corpse accidentally finds a horrible disease. The disease then becomes an international fear which drives peoples crazy and it becomes an every man for himself situation. The sub-genres that 'The Flux' fits into contagion and mutation.
  6. Location: the setting of the film and how this fits the Science Fiction genre -This film starts in a science lab in Texas but then the disease spreads world wide and becomes an international disease. This ties in with the Sci-Fi genre as it is set in a crazy scientists lab.
  7. The hero / heroine and their appeal to the audience - The protectionist is a student who is studying science in school and he thinks he can get raid of the virus. His appeal to the audience is that he is a young student who is still at school so the audience is able to relate to him.
  8. The conflicts the hero / heroine encounters during the film (can be physical, moral or internal)
  9. Other characters and their role in the film
  10. Presentational style: The look, style and feel of the film e.g. will it feature 3D? Visual and Sound FX? CGI?

2) Which of the aspects of the brief have you successfully included in your idea? (Note: you do not need to include all but must include at least two of these aspects.)
  • Futuristic Earth setting
  • Another planet such as Pluto or Mars
  • Outer space or set on a spaceship
  • Issues of genetic engineering, cloning or AI
  • Changing people, robot technology or how people may develop in future through scientific advancement- The disease changes people by slowly killing them and nobody , but 1 person knows how to cure the disease

3) How will you make your film popular with a family audience?
I will offer visceral pleasures in my film such as letting the audience relate with the protagonist and featuring a family in the film.

4) Plan a marketing campaign for your film: trailers and video content, social media, apps, tied-in merchandising, franchise opportunities (e.g. sequels, spin-offs etc.)

5) Prepare for the creative task in the exam. Plan, sketch and draw the following:

  • Logo and graphic identity for your new Science Fiction film
  • Film poster
  • Website homepage for your Science Fiction film
  • Storyboard for a 30 second trailer for the film. Use this AQA storyboard sheet if you don't pick up a paper copy in class.

'CHAPPiE' Analysis

Language

The text on top of the title shows that the Institution has made other big selling films.
The tag line and the release date are other expected codes and conventions. The effect created here is that the robot is humans only hope, you can imagine and make out that the human race is being over taken and this robot is either one of the robots taking over the human race or protecting it. Also it is subversive because it looks like it has mind of its own and is programmed in a different way to other robots, the 'reject sign shows that this its a different type of robot to its race.

Audience

The poster shows that the movie is targeted at people who enjoyed the movie 'District 9' because it mentions that they have the same director as 'District 9'.Also its for people into the Sci-Fi/Action genre. It looks like its directed towards men although some females could watch it.It is also a 15 age rating.

 Institution

'CHAPPiE' was produced by Columbia Pictures. They are associated with Sci-Fi and action film it was directed by Blomkamps and his wife Teri Tatchell. Chappie also grossed $31.6l Million to make.
This movie took 2 weeks to write and was shot in Columbia in 2014.The film was shop with Red Epic Cameras.Using Panavision anamorphic primes.

Representation

The picture shows half of a robots face with the clouds as a background it looks scratched and

Photoshop HSBC Adverts

I created this image by getting 3 images from the internet,Then i cropped them to fit the template and i put the text 'water' over them. These 3 images all interpret water in different ways. The first one is people who don't have water and are drinking different water to the second image; The second image shows water represented in a good way and it represents water in a beautiful way. I would improve the text and try and get the images to look more clearer by cropping them in a less compact way. This specific image is aimed at younger people who don't understand the word water in a way that is much more than just a drink.
This is 3 images that are the same but 3 different words that represent different ways someone would interpret this image. The first word shows that someone can use this as a gaming device to entertain themselves with. The second image
